Information Technology is changing, and today’s data center requirements are more demanding than ever. Processing power doubles every six months. Systems are continually faster. Today’s systems consist of more cores and they have more RAM. Each unit of rackspace produces more pure number crunching power than racks of systems just a few years old.
RTGX starts by leveraging modern, energy efficient multi-core rack dense servers – like the Dell 1950. This class of server already addresses the space, cooling, and power issue. Hardware manufacturers have spent millions in recent years to design hardware which uses less energy, fits in smaller spaces (1U and blade servers) and produces less heat (which means less air conditioning in the data center) all while continuing to produce the fastest, most powerful machines technically possible. The good news is they have done it, and following true to Moore’s law, continue to do it at a pace software can’t keep up with. That leads to the fourth, and fundamentally most difficult part of the problem: utilization. Simply, the server can process more, use less power, and take up little space, but it can’t really “do” anything more than its predecessor.
Virtualization software from companies like VMWare and XenSource have answered the call. Both have developed software which virtualize hardware, allowing multiple Operating Systems to run simultaneously on the same hardware. Since the average utilization of a Windows server is 5-7%, the benefit is instantly obvious. Companies can achieve a 10-1 ratio or better on each server. The ROI is instant, and the benefits immediate.
RTGX maintains a team of senior level architects who specialize in designing, integrating, and managing virtual systems. Although the process sounds simple, virtualization technology is extremely complex, and requires a well-designed architecture in order for things to operate properly. This is one instance where just buying the software and “figuring it out” doesn’t work. RTGX has the knowledge and experience to help organizations successfully virtualize their data center. |
